My
Husband and I just love going for
rides on his Yamaha Road Star! We
go out just about every Sunday with
sometimes up to 20 other riders!
It's much better when the weather
is nice, but we are known to go out
even during winter as long as there
is no snow and the roads are clear.
It can be a pain in the neck during
cold weather because there's so much
gear to put on like chaps, thermal
underwear, heavy riding jacket and
extra layers of clothing. Not to
forget very warm gloves and a face
scarf!
Now, Sunday
May 23, 2004 was a glorious day!
It started off a bit overcast but
as the morning went into afternoon,
it got absolutely gorgeous out!
What a perfect day for participating
in Dee Snider's Annual "Bikers
for Babies Ride" which
is for the March of Dimes. Many
of you may remember Dee
Snider as the Heavy
Metal Rocker of the
80's with lot's of long curly blonde
hair and lots of makeup! He was
the lead singer of the band "Twisted
Sister" who had a very
big hit song called "We're
Not Gonna Take It". I
remember it being on the radio
and MTV all the time when I was
a YOUNGER woman
:)
It started off
at the parking lot of 1-800-flowers in Westbury,
New York were all the Bikers
gathered to register and give their
donation for this wonderful cause.
We then all took off in formation
(my husband rode, I was his passenger)
heading towards Bald Hill which is
on the east end of Long Island,
New York. There is a Vietnam
Veterans Memorial there
which I have never seen so I was
very much looking forward to this
as well!
What a cool ride
this was, there were thousands of
bikers! I look behind me and there
were thousands, I looked in front
of me and there were thousands, it
was so amazing to be a part
of this! It was a long scenic ride
along Long Island's Ocean
Parkway so it was lovely
just looking out at the ocean and
going over huge bridges on the back
of a motorcycle, I felt
free like a bird! It got a bit chilly
by the water, but the sun was shining
strong and bright and once we got
closer to our destination it started
to get very warm.
When we arrived
at "Bald Hill" there were thousand
of bikes and bikers from end to end
of this huge parking lot! We got
settled and then proceeded to the
food line. Well, what can I tell
you, it was a very long line.
That was ok because it was just a
perfect day and we were there for
children who were in need. Being
a mother of two children it meant
lots to me. We got some burgers and
cold drink and enjoyed walking around.
There were booths setup with all
sorts of biker merchandise, and some
had custom bikes and choppers to
sell.
We stayed a few
hours then headed on back to our
regular lives as mom and dad :)
Boy did I get a pretty bad sunburn
on my face, arms and shoulders! Ouch!
I'm still hurting from it :)
Now you know,
I'm not just a
webmaster who absolutely loves gambling
online, but a woman, mother and wife with
a zest for life! I hope you are all
enjoying your days on this beautiful planet
just as much as I enjoy mine!
Now, enjoy the
pictures, I took most of them sitting
on the moving bike holding on to
the camera for dear life! |
